The Middle East
is the birthplace of shawarma, both chicken and beef. Thinly sliced meat and
other fresh vegetable ingredients come together inside a delicious pita bread,
and no one can match the authenticity of its original ingredients—spices,
lemons, coriander, and a mixture of lovely hummus or tahini paste.
Now the Mexican
DNA enters the picture and turns up the heat! The modest mission of this
family-run business is to bring a Filipino twist to traditional ingredients by
combining flavors from both cultures. One of House of Pita's newest,
best-selling, trendiest food items in the city is the pork Shawarma, which the
original intention was to make to illustrate that shawarma can be created with
anything other than beef or chicken.
A deep respect
for Muslim culture exists in the heart of the dish's owner and creator. The
so-called Pork Shawarma, which isn't actually a Shawarma but does contain pork,
was initially a divisive topic because they anticipated some people would
criticize it. Luckily, the Dutch recipe for pork shawarma served as an
inspiration for House of Pita. In other parts of the world, like Greece, both
dishes use a combination of spices and pork.
Therefore, the
owners are grateful to know that cultural diversity is an eye-opener in the
world of culinary cuisine, demonstrating that innovation and merging cultures
one-two-three is universally welcomed. This is especially true when it comes to
the craft of pita bread, where the owners are innovative.
If you're in
the mood for some tasty Shawarmas or any of House of Pita's other delicious
salads, you've come to the right place!
